Something I wrote one night:
Lord,
When I was a child, I felt safe. I knew nothing of the bubble that followed me everywhere my heart desired.
When I was an adolescent, the world was wide open. I knew nothing but anticipation of the future.
When I was a young adult, I was indestructible. I knew nothing of the disasters averted by your hand.
Now that I am older, I see the storms you once shielded from my eyes, and my thoughts aren’t just what I’ll do when the rain passes.
Sometimes I hear the devil tracing his finger through the cracks of man’s ineptitude. Sometimes before the dawn I wonder how many suns more will rise.
Please calm my soul and let me be part of the better angels of our nature. Place me in this spot, this present moment. Give me sanctuary and the strength to pass it on to a new born. When I forget, remind me that my actions must be out of love, patience and understanding - because I too am part of the storm. Let me be the calm for others and fill those precious cracks - the ones where dreams slide and disasters must be averted. Hold still this shaky house of wood, not for me, for generations to come.
